Matt Rush's 92nd minute strike condemned Hartlepool United to a second successive National League defeat as Pools, who came agonisingly close to mounting a remarkable comeback, were beaten 4-3 by league leaders Boreham Wood.

Rush, who scored a hat-trick against Pools in April, came off the bench to snatch a late winner as Pete Wild's side, who produced one of their best second half performances in recent memory, sunk to a heartbreaking defeat in Hertfordshire.

Yet there was so much to be proud of for Pools, who came roaring back to take a 3-2 lead having gone two goals down to a well-oiled Wood side before losing an enthralling contest at the death.
