'Gutted' Pete Wild slams 'absolutely ridiculous' penalty decision as Hartlepool United suffer agonising late defeat at league leaders Boreham Wood

"It was a ridiculous penalty decision, absolutely ridiculous. How he can give it, I don't know. I don't know where he's coming from with his decision-making. I thought it was like that through the whole football match."

Pete Wild admitted he was "gutted" after two late goals condemned Hartlepool United to an agonising 4-3 defeat to National League leaders Boreham Wood.

In one of the most remarkable contests in recent memory, Pools battled back from two goals down to take a 3-2 lead before strikes from Zak Brunt, a former National League title winner with Barnet, and Matt Rush, who bagged a hat-trick when the two teams last met in April, turned the game on its head for a final time.

Whereas the Wood, who have won 14 and drawn two of their opening 16 matches this season, extended their lead at the top of the table to a whopping 12 points, Pools slumped back into the relegation zone after Boston United beat fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United.
