Player ratings as Hartlepool United suffer yet another FA Cup humbling

Hartlepool United failed to reach the first round of the FA Cup for the fourth season in a row after Pools were beaten 2-0 by National League North side Marine.

Max Thompson: 5

Was beaten at his near post by Jack Doyle for Marine's opening goal, albeit from close range. Survived a scare when he charged off his line in a bid to reach a loose ball but was beaten to it before Finlay Sinclar-Smith blazed over while he was stranded in no man's land. Came to punch and collect a handful of balls into his box but still feels somewhat reluctant to dominate his area.

Neo Eccleston: 7

The only player to emerge with any credit from an otherwise bitterly disappointing afternoon, produced several excellent forward runs and was his side's biggest threat for large parts.
