It's been a long, long time since Pools fans were gearing up for a new season with quite the same level of optimism, confidence and expectation.
Ever since Pools were relegated back to the National League in 2023 - and, in truth, even before that - the club seemed to have lurched from crisis to crisis under the tumultuous stewardship of controversial former owner Raj Singh.
The tempestuous nature of Singh's turbulent reign reached its zenith last summer, when the 61-year-old's sudden and unexpected resignation in March plunged Pools into a perilous and uncertain position.
