According to Oddschecker, Hartlepool United are currently the 5/1 second favourites to be crowned National League champions next season.
Yet Pools fans know from bitter experience that being rated as among the leading contenders by no means guarantees success when the campaign kicks off.
After all, Pools were well-fancied to bounce straight back following their first ever relegation to the fifth tier ahead of the 2017/18 season but failed to win any of their opening six matches, endured a campaign overshadowed by perilous off-field issues and ended up finishing an underwhelming 15th.
