Pete Wild planning to 'take stock over the weekend' as he assesses Hartlepool United's recruitment needs

"The challenge by Christmas is, hopefully, to be sat there going 'well, that was a stinky start, but we're moving in the right direction now'."

New Hartlepool United head coach Pete Wild is planning to "take stock over the weekend" as he assesses the potential need for further new signings.

Having inherited a squad low on confidence, ravaged by injuries and lacking coherence under Lee Clark, Wild has already welcomed three new recruits to Victoria Park since his appointment at the beginning of the month.

As he gets his feet under the table in the North East, the former Oldham Athletic, Halifax Town, Barrow, Fleetwood Town and Tranmere Rovers boss has identified several areas in need of urgent redress.

In particular, Pools have been lacking a creative presence in midfield while injuries to the likes of Maxim Kouogun, Liam Gibson and Jay Benn has left them light across their back line.
