Pete Wild feels Hartlepool United outfought by National League North side Marine following humbling FA Cup exit

"That's generally what wins lower league football matches, not good play, not brilliance. It's generally desire, effort and who's better in both boxes."

Head coach Pete Wild felt Hartlepool United were outfought by National League North side Marine after Pools were dumped out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Having never previously failed to reach the first round proper in their entire history, Pools have now been dumped out of the FA Cup at the fourth qualifying round stage in each of the last four years.

For all Wild, who said after the game that the club were in need of "a complete refurb", did his best to insist his side would be up for the cup in the lead up to Saturday's game, Pools produced a performance that was uncertain, sluggish and lacking quality.
