Lee Clark insists Hartlepool United's humiliating 10-0 National League Cup defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough's under-21 side "wasn't all doom and gloom".
Having made the divisive decision to enter the controversial competition for the first time since its formation ahead of the 2024/25 season, a young Pools side endured a nightmarish afternoon against a far superior Boro side.
While the competition's rules dictate that at least four players to have started the previous league game must be named in the team for National League Cup fixtures, Pools substituted Jack Hunter, Will Harris, Chris Popov and Brooklyn Ilunga inside the opening 90 seconds and fielded an extremely youthful side on Tuesday.
