Lee Clark full of praise for 'phenomenal' Chris Popov following striker's first Hartlepool United goal

"That's what makes a top striker, I was lucky enough to play with many, many of them in my career and they had this mentality that if they missed one, they'd score the next one."

Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark was full of praise for the "phenomenal" Chris Popov after the young forward scored his first Pools goal during Saturday's 1-0 win over Woking.

Clark, who knows a thing or two about top strikers having played with the likes of Alan Shearer, Andy Cole and Les Ferdinand, hailed the attacker's work ethic after he opened his account at Victoria Park.

While by Popov's own admission it might not have been the best goal he'll ever score, it was certainly an important one as Pools ended a dismal run of three successive defeats against the out of sorts Cardinals.
