Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark was full of praise for the "absolutely outstanding" Maxim Kouogun after the defender impressed during Saturday's hard-fought 1-0 win over Aldershot Town.
The 29-year-old was a surprise omission from the starting XI ahead of the 2-0 win over Barrow on the opening day of the new National League season earlier this month but came on to help Pools see out the game and preserve a clean sheet.
After Liam Gibson, who was preferred to Kouogun against the Bluebirds, failed to recover from a hamstring strain in time for Saturday's mammoth trip to Aldershot, however, Kouogun was restored to the team alongside Reiss McNally in the heart of the Pools defence.
