Having won their opening two games of the new National League campaign, three losses on the bounce had seen Pools, who began the season as one of the title favourites, slump to 14th in the table.

While Pools have by no means solved all of their problems overnight, three points on Saturday felt like a significant step in the right direction.

Having once again shuffled his pack, with skipper Jack Hunter lining up alongside Reiss McNally at centre-half, Clark saw his side battle to a much-needed victory against a Woking outfit who have endured a challenging start to the new campaign, losing four of their opening six league matches.
