Hartlepool United owner Landon Smith feels Pools are "riding in the wake" of "incredible" Wrexham.

It feels almost inevitable that an American owner taking charge of a National League club would draw comparisons to Wrexham.

Following an 87-year stay in the Football League, Wrexham were relegated from League Two in 2008 and the Red Dragons became stranded in non-league football until their takeover by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney, an American best known for his role in the hit comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Ryan Reynolds, a Canadian who was the world's second-highest-paid actor between 2020 and 2024.
