Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark hailed his side's "desire" following Saturday's battling 1-0 win over Aldershot Town.
Substitute Corey McKeown headed home a debut goal 10 minutes after his introduction as Pools maintained their perfect start to the new National League season.
While it was by no means a vintage Pools performance and Shots striker Marcus Dinanga, who failed to find the net in 15 matches during a loan spell at Victoria Park in the 2018/19 campaign, blazed a woeful 87th minute penalty well over Max Merrick's crossbar, Clark's side showed plenty of spirit, commitment and determination underneath the blazing Hampshire sun.
