Hartlepool United have completed the signing of defender Sam Lavelle on an initial 28-day loan from League Two side Grimsby Town.

The 30-year-old becomes new head coach Pete Wild's third signing since his appointment earlier this month, following in the footsteps of Barrow attacking-midfielder Jack Earing as well as versatile defender Max Clark.

Lavelle arrives to provide Pools with some much-needed cover and competition in the heart of their defence, with both influential centre-back Maxim Kouogun as well as the experienced Liam Gibson currently sidelined through injury.

Having come through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers, Lavelle spent time at Bolton Wanderers before signing for Morecambe in August 2017.
