Goalkeeper Harrison Male, who has been linked with a move to Hartlepool United this summer, admits he was surprised to have been released by York City at the end of last season.

The 25-year-old was an integral part of the York side who were crowned National League champions last term, keeping 19 clean sheets in 47 appearances, but was not offered a new deal at the end of the campaign.

Having come through the academy at Leeds United, Male signed for the Minstermen in July 2024 following impressive spells at Worthing and Dorking Wanderers and would go on to keep 38 clean sheets in 90 matches.
