Former Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor has been reflecting on his "special" relationship with the Pools fanbase.

Challinor, who led Pools to promotion back to the Football League via a heart-stopping National League play-off final in 2021, is widely regarded as one of the club's greatest ever managers and enjoys legendary status amongst supporters.

Having been relegated from League Two for the first time in the club's entire history in 2017, Pools finished an underwhelming 16th, 15th and 12th during their first three campaigns in the National League.

Challinor, who took charge of Pools following a hugely successful eight-year spell with AFC Fylde, led his side to a fourth placed finish in the 2020/21 season before victories over Bromley, Stockport County and Torquay United secured a memorable promotion.
