Former Hartlepool United boss Dave Challinor has been reflecting on his side's "amazing" 2021 National League play-off final victory.

Challinor, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in the club's entire history, led Pools back to the Football League via a heart-stopping play-off final against Torquay United following four consecutive campaigns in the National League.

Having finished 15th, 16th and 12th in their first three seasons in the fifth tier, Challinor led Pools to a fourth placed finish in the 2020/21 campaign, setting up a play-off quarter-final at home to Bromley.

Pools raced into a 3-0 lead inside 25 minutes thanks to a brace from Rhys Oates either side of an effort by Luke Armstrong but survived a late scare as the visitors pulled two goals back in the second half.
