Hartlepool United striker Chris Popov has hailed new Pools head coach Pete Wild as "a breath of fresh air".

Wild became the ninth man to take charge of Pools on a permanent basis since the club were relegated back to the National League at the end of the 2022/23 season when he replaced Lee Clark at the beginning of the month.

Although Pools were beaten at home by Tamworth in the 42-year-old's first game in charge - admittedly, Wild was only appointed on the Thursday of that week, meaning he had just one training session to get to grips with his new side - there were plenty of encouraging signs during Saturday's much-needed 4-2 win over Forest Green Rovers.
