Hartlepool United legend Brian Honour has backed the "tenacious" Lee Clark to succeed at Victoria Park.
Clark was appointed Pools head coach in May after the departure of Nicky Featherstone following a brief spell in charge of Rotherham United.
Although the 53-year-old failed to stave off the threat of relegation to League Two at the end of last season, the Millers were understood to have been keen on keeping Clark in South Yorkshire ahead of the new campaign.
