Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark felt there were "lots of positives" from his side's 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat to League Two Grimsby Town on Saturday.
Although Pools' 100 per cent record in pre-season came to an end at Victoria Park against a Mariners side who finished in the League Two play-off places last term, Clark was pleased with much of what he saw from the hosts.
Clark named a strong starting XI that included new signings Cameron John, who returned on a permanent deal having impressed while on loan last season, and goalkeeper Max Merrick, who arrives on a season-long loan from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea.
