Pools suffered their third successive defeat on a difficult evening in West Yorkshire, going down 1-0 to a Halifax side who had lost three of their opening four National League matches following the excellent Will Hugill's 53rd minute goal.

Whereas Pools were touted as possible title challengers ahead of the new campaign, the Shaymen were widely tipped for a season of struggle having endured a tumultuous summer that saw popular manager Adam Lakeland, who led them to an eighth placed finish last term, leave to take charge of National League North outfit Morecambe.
