Pete Wild hails Hartlepool United's 'effort and desire' despite 'frustrating' AFC Fylde defeat

"I thought Fylde were excellent, particularly in the second half, but I thought we contained them really, really well. You'd like to think we'd have continued to contain them if the referees had done their jobs."

Pete Wild felt Hartlepool United "gave effort and desire in abundance" after three late goals condemned Pools to a 3-1 midweek defeat to AFC Fylde.

For a long time, Pools looked to be heading for what would have been a third consecutive National League win only for three goals in the final 13 minutes of normal time to turn the contest on its head.

Having recovered from going a goal and a man down at home to newly-promoted Hornchurch at the weekend, Pools found themselves on the wrong end of a second half comeback against the play-off chasing Coasters.

In Wild's own words, it was a game of "fine margins". Had Pools held on and returned home with all three points, they would have moved to within six of the play-off places. As it turned out, Wild's side dropped one place in the table to 20th and are only above the relegation zone on goal difference.
