While it was increasingly obvious that head coach Lee Clark was under growing pressure as Pools were condemned to their sixth defeat in seven National League games, few fans would have been expecting the 53-year-old to offer his sudden resignation in explosive circumstances. Having been the subject of vociferous criticism from the terraces throughout large parts of another disappointing Pools performance, Clark headed straight down the tunnel at full time. Then, unusually, Clark told the assembled media he was resigning from his post as he felt the ill-feeling from supporters was "not going to change." It was fairly apparent that Clark, who is nothing if not an emotional character, had not informed club officials of his decision prior to his announcement.
