Five things to look out for ahead of Hartlepool United's final pre-season game against League Two Fleetwood Town

While Pools have used several different formations throughout the summer, pre-season would suggest that Clark is keen on a traditional 4-4-2 next term. Certainly, that should help Pools when it comes to pressing from the front, creating chances and scoring goals, but it might also leave them vulnerable in certain areas. Although the likes of Will Harris and Jack Nolan will surely be licking their lips at the prospect of lining up in Clark's aggressive and front-footed shape, Pools won't want their newfound attacking intent to come at the cost of defensive solidity. Clark has plenty of capable defenders to call upon including the likes of Maxim Kouogun, Reiss McNally, Jay Benn and Cameron John, who sealed a permanent return to Victoria Park earlier this month following an impressive loan spell last term, but he will need to be mindful of striking the right balance. Significantly, Pools do look to have plenty of flexibility and versatility in their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign and Clark will likely feel he has the players to operate in a 3-5-2, 4-3-3 or several other shapes and formations.
