New Hartlepool United goalkeeper Max Thompson revealed he is relishing the challenge after signing for Pools.

Just 11 games into the new National League season, Thompson became the third goalkeeper to represent Pools this term when he made his debut during Tuesday night's narrow defeat to high-flying Harrogate Town.

After impressive Chelsea loanee Max Merrick was ruled out through injury at the beginning of September, former Middlesbrough and Sunderland man Nathan Fisher failed to convince during a series of uncertain performances.

As a result, Pools have turned to Thompson on an initial short-term deal as the club await Merrick's return.
