Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark admits he has some "really difficult decisions" to make ahead of next month's National League season opener at home to Barrow.
Pools have one final pre-season game against Fleetwood Town this weekend before kicking off the 2026/27 campaign with the visit of a Bluebirds side who were relegated from League Two last term.
Having released 13 players at the end of another underwhelming National League campaign in May, Clark's side have enjoyed an extremely productive summer in the transfer market, welcoming 14 new recruits to Victoria Park.
With new owner Landon Smith putting his faith in former Wrexham, Fleetwood Town and Blackpool goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, who is in essence operating as the club's director of football operations, as well as head of recruitment Chris Beech, who scored 27 goals in 104 games at Victoria Park in the late 1990s, Pools appear to have made significant strides in the right direction ahead of the new campaign.
