Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark was full of praise for his side's mentality following Saturday's 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Grimsby Town.
Although Pools were ultimately well beaten by an impressive Mariners outfit who finished in the League Two play-off places last season, there were plenty of positives to take from a spirited showing at Victoria Park.
While Grimsby's quality and clinicality made the difference, there wasn't too much to separate the sides as Pools suffered their first defeat of pre-season following four successive victories.
Other than a handful of lapses of concentration, Pools defended well enough for the most part while Clark's new look front line, which included summer signings Will Harris, Jack Nolan, Jordan Hugill and Brooklyn Ilunga, caused the visitors a handful of problems.
