Former Hartlepool United forward Jonathan Franks believes Pools are "definitely" capable of challenging for promotion next season.
Having finished 12th, 11th and ninth in the three seasons since being relegated back to the National League at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, Pools fans are hoping for significant improvement next term.
Whereas in previous years supporters have tended to approach each new season with more hope than genuine expectation, there is a real sense of optimism, confidence and belief ahead of the new campaign.
A lot has changed since the final whistle blew on another underwhelming season last term, with new owner Landon Smith, specialist football consultancy firm Bromby and Partners and head of recruitment Chris Beech working hard to transform Pools into a force to be reckoned with.
