Jeff Stelling - Lee Clark failed to get the best out of 'talented' Hartlepool United squad

Just nine games into the National League season, Pools, who were touted as possible title contenders ahead of the campaign, are on the hunt for a new head coach following Clark's dramatic resignation on Saturday.

Clark, who was only appointed in May, announced his shock decision to the assembled media in the immediate aftermath of his side's 3-1 loss at home to newly-promoted Worthing, their sixth defeat in seven matches.

Having been the subject of vociferous criticism from the terraces - indeed, Pools fans could be heard calling for Clark's head throughout large parts of Saturday's game - the 53-year-old stormed straight down the tunnel without acknowledging supporters before telling the press of his intention to resign.
