Jeff Stelling 'gobsmacked' by manner of Lee Clark's Hartlepool United exit

Clark, who was only appointed in May, announced his sudden decision to resign in the immediate aftermath of Saturday's 3-1 loss at home to newly-promoted Worthing, his side's sixth defeat in seven National League matches.

While there was no doubt that pressure was beginning to build on Clark, few could have foreseen his shock resignation, with club officials left scrambling after he revealed his decision to the media.

Whatever the case, it was becoming increasingly apparent that Clark had failed to win over Pools fans, many of whom could be heard calling for his dismissal during Saturday's game.
