Hartlepool United president Jeff Stelling believes new owner Landon Smith has "made a lot of the right steps" since taking charge of Pools.

Pools appear to have made significant strides in the right direction since the American businessman and investor, who is the co-founder of real estate company Tailwind Group, completed his sudden and unexpected takeover of the club from controversial former owner Raj Singh on New Year's Eve.

While by his own admission Smith still has lots to learn about National League football as well as the unique culture in the North East, he's drawn widespread praise for his determination to get to know Hartlepool United, its history and its fanbase.

In stark contrast to Singh, who was bullish in his approach to criticism and reluctant to engage with supporters, Smith has been forthright and honest about his plans for the club, penning several open letters to update fans on progress being made on and off the pitch.
