New Hartlepool United signing Max Merrick hailed Pools as "a huge football club with fantastic supporters" after the young goalkeeper sealed a season-long loan move from Premier League giants Chelsea on Saturday.

The 20-year-old became the club's 13th summer signing and could well be head coach Lee Clark's final bit of business, bringing to an end a hugely positive few months in the transfer market.

Pools, who used four different goalkeepers last season, had been on the hunt for a new number one in-between the sticks all summer following the decision to release Nick Hayes after a decidedly shaky spell in the North East in May.
