Cameron John has hailed the "brilliant" Hartlepool United fans after sealing a permanent return to Victoria Park.

The versatile defender, who can operate at left-back or centre-half, became the club's 12th summer signing earlier this week, while his arrival was swiftly followed by the loan signing of young Chelsea goalkeeper Max Merrick.

John's arrival represents one of the final pieces of the puzzle for new Pools head coach Lee Clark, who suggested after Saturday's 3-0 pre-season defeat at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town that his summer business was almost complete.
