Hartlepool United interim head coach Adam Clayton felt his side deserved to win after Pools were condemned to a fifth successive defeat on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 at home to Harrogate Town.

While Pools produced a significantly improved showing from Saturday's 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Scunthorpe United, their first game since the dramatic resignation of head coach Lee Clark, the hosts were unable to end their miserable recent run.

Indeed, Pools, who were touted as possible National League title contenders ahead of the new campaign, now find themselves in the relegation zone having lost eight of their last nine matches.
